Orlando Bloom has been heating up the inside of the Richard Rogers Theater where hundreds of his fans have been blocking traffic on the streets on West 46th street for several weeks in anticipation of last Thursday's opening of Romeo and Juliet. This version of the classic tale retains Shakespeare's original language but a modern setting in which the rival families (the Montagues and the Capulets) are white and black. It features a shirtless Bloom, a panting Rashad, a motorcycle, balloons, flames shooting out over a wall of graffiti and terrific acting. The show runs through January 12th. Romeo and Juliet stars Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) and two-time Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful) and, although, Bloom is happily married to supermodel Miranda Kerr, the on stage chemistry between Bloom and Rashad has been gossip fodder for the internet. This is the first Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet in 36 years. |
